DIHAN, or Does It Have A Name, is a platform for experimental performance art founded in 2019 in Groningen. From 2022 to 2026, I co-organized and co-curated a series of 19 events, hosting more than 50 performance acts that took place at various locations, including Groningen Forum, ARTisBOOK Foundation, Gallery Block C, Bookstore Berger & de Vries, Groningen city park, De Slegte studios, and even a car parking lot.
DIHAN has operated on the consensus of the diy mentality, following the Fluxus tradition of welcoming spontaneity, unpredictability, and the unknown. Each event would take place in the form of what Allan Kaprow called a happening: an environment in which experimental composition (including the audience) takes place.
All these years, DIHAN has remained faithful to the diy mentality, meaning the organization does not rely on funding, the events are free of charge, and artists are welcomed to experiment. For us, the facilitators of DIHAN, this allowed us to have an open-ended and flexible way of organizing and building a sense of community.
Outside of this open-ended framework, DIHAN annually contributes to Night of Philosophy and collaborates with other art institutions for curating performance evenings.
since 2026 February, DIHAN merged with another event organization, ZOT, and continues to be run as DIZOT.
